Tree Preservation
Service Proposal/Estimate
We will come to your home FREE of charge to analyze a specific situation or
job that you want done. We can either meet with you to discuss the recommended
plan and estimate or leave it at your home. If you would like to meet, then
a specific appointment time is necessary, but if not, no one needs to be at
home when we arrive.
Professional Consultation
If you would like to personally speak to someone about the status of any of
your trees, call us to schedule an appointment. Barry Smith, the owner of Arbor-Nomics
Tree Service and a degreed forester or Jennifer Perrone, a certified arborist
and a wildlife biologist, will walk your property with you to discuss each tree
of interest, its status and a recommended plan. They will also answer any questions
you might have. This service starts at $75.
Tree Appraisals
Do you have a beloved tree that was cut down in error or some that were damaged
in a storm? Do you need to have them appraised for insurance or tax purposes?
Whatever the reason, we can provide you with a written appraisal, which follows
national guidelines from the "Council of Tree and Landscape Appraisers'
Guide for Plant Appraisal, 9th edition. This service starts at $250. Call us
to schedule an appointment. Our expert forester, Barry Smith, has appraised
hundreds of trees and has even served as an expert witness in trials.
Pruning
Tree pruning is done for a variety of reasons: from preventing animals having
access to your house to making your landscape cleaner and neater. In general,
trees should be pruned at least every two years. Climbing spikes should never
be used when pruning trees since they damage the tree. This is why we NEVER
use them. We also never cut off the top of a tree, also known as tree topping
because it can easily kill a tree. We prefer "crown reduction" which
reduces the number of branches at or near the treetop. This is far less damaging.
Reasons for pruning:
- Getting rid of dead or damaged limbs which could fall and cause damage
to your property or an individual
- General clean-up needed
- Limbs hanging over the roofline
- Limbs staining the roof
- Limbs clogging the gutters
- Limbs brushing and staining wood siding
- Limbs blocking a satellite dish
- Preventing animals from having access to your house
- Grass dying around trees
Benefits of pruning:
- Makes your trees healthier by getting rid of damaged or dead branches
- Increases the air flow in the tree which decreases the number of insects
- Eliminates interior cross and rubbing branches so the energy goes to the
exterior of the tree
- Cutting lower limbs and/or thinning the interior of the tree allows sunlight
to penetrate and helps grass under the tree grow.
- Improves the overall aesthetics of your property.
Cabling/Bracing
Cabling is done in the upper crown of a tree. We install synthetic cables between
major limbs, one or more strong ones, to support a weaker structure in case
it falls (eg. during high winds or an ice storm).
Bracing is done to the trunk of a tree when it splits. Steel rods are inserted
to minimize the possibility of breakage. Cabling must be done along with bracing.
Lightning Protection
This is usually done to key trees to protect them from lightning and the damage
it causes. We install a metal lightning system, which acts as a lightning rod,
attracting the lightning and grounding it.
Soil Fertility
Soil fertilization makes soil healthier. Since trees bring in nutrients from
the soil, through their roots, soil fertilization makes your trees healthier.
It can help improve your trees' resistance to disease, insect attack and drought.
Deep Root Organics
This service benefits older rather than younger trees which need fertilization
for top growth. Older trees don't need top growth but root growth is still important.
In deep root organics, a combination of organic products (kelp, yucca and mycorrhizea)
are injected into the soil around the drip line of the tree to promote root
growth.
Fertilization
Fertilizers are important for younger trees as it helps the trees to grow faster.
A combination of nitrates, phosphorous and potassium are injected into the soil
around the root line of the tree to promote top growth.
Tree Root Aeration
This is very similar to lawn aeration and is recommended primarily for trees
in compacted soil. Small holes are drilled around the drip line of the tree
to allow more air, water and nutrients to get into the soil by breaking up the
compacted soil.
Insect & Disease Control
Insects and diseases can severely damage or kill a tree. The common tree insects
and diseases here in Georgia are:
- Wood boring beetles
- Mites
- Aphids
- Pine needle cast
- Powdery mildew
To combat these issues we inject an insecticide or fungicide directly into
the tree. These travel systemically through the tree, spreading all the way
to its leaves. This prevents diseases and kills bugs which may try to settle
into your trees. These injections in no way harm your trees.
